Star is a picturesque rural town in the beautiful Boise Foothills. Surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, the historic charm of this small town has been preserved through its ongoing growth. The scenic Boise River runs along the southern border of Star providing excellent fishing, kayaking, rafting, and canoeing. The location is perfect for hiking, biking, nature walks, dirt biking, riding ATVs, horseback riding, hunting, and winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobiling. 

Star Road runs north and south through the middle of town, and along this road, there are three municipal parks. On the north end of Star is Hunter’s Creek Sports Complex. Located near the center of town is Blake Haven Park. On the southern end of town is the Star Riverwalk Park, a small park established to be an entry to the nature trail along the Boise River. There is also a new dog park just off Star Road on Hidden Brook Drive. Star is a predominantly residential town; however, there are some shops, businesses, restaurants, and boutiques along W. State Street on the southern end of town.

Local Lifestyle

Star is a quiet rural town with a laid-back and serene vibe. The Star residents enjoy open spaces and have a fondness for nature and outdoor activities. Fishing, rafting, kayaking, and canoeing on the Boise River are popular activities in this community. The Hunter’s Creek Sports Complex is another popular gathering spot, especially for younger residents who enjoy the skate park. Star is close to Eagle and Meridian and only about 17 miles from Boise, so residents often commute to those areas for work, shopping, and entertainment. This allows Star to remain quiet and rural while still being close to the convenience and amenities offered in larger cities. 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Although Star is a small town, it offers some excellent dining choices. Sully’s is an Irish Pub famous for its fresh seafood, steaks, and authentic fish & chips. Sully’s is a fantastic place to have drinks with friends. Star Country Cafe is a homey American-style cafe offering delicious and satisfying comfort food and is perfect for casual family dinners. The Flats restaurant is the ideal place for a classy date night. The Flats offers palate-pleasing steaks, salads, and seafood in a comfortable and romantic atmosphere.

Star is a quiet rural town, so residents head to the larger nearby cities of Eagle, Nampa, Meridian, and Boise for theaters, music venues, and nightclubs. There are a few bars and cocktail lounges in Star, namely The Beer Guys Saloon, Sully’s, and Helina Marie’s

Star has a very quaint downtown area that has an Old West vibe. The Star Mercantile is a landmark grocery and hardware store with the motto, “If we don’t have it, you don’t need it.”  Star also has a few small and unique shops and boutiques and an Albertson’s grocery. A short drive to Meridian provides the residents of Star with additional upscale and specialty shopping venues.

Star is the perfect place for those looking for a quiet town and endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. The Boise River is the ideal setting for fishing, kayaking, rafting, swimming, tubing, and canoeing. The surrounding open country and wilderness areas provide miles of hiking, biking, and nature trails. 

There are also areas for dirt biking, riding ATVs, horseback riding, and hunting. World-class ski resorts are in the mountains north of Star, offering winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, fat-tire biking, and snowmobiling. Star has several municipal parks, including Hunter’s Creek Sports Complex,   Blake Haven Park, and Star Riverwalk Park. Hunter’s Creek Sports Complex is an excellent place for skateboarding, sports, and picnics. It is also the site of the Hometown Celebration Fireworks Show. 

Blake Haven Park has great playgrounds and picnic areas, so it is a popular spot for families with children, and it is also the site of summer movie nights. Riverwalk Park provides an entrance to the nature trail along the Boise River. Outdoors people and water sports enthusiasts enjoy the park for fishing, nature walks, kayaking, rafting, tubing, and canoeing. Nearby Eagle Island State Park is a popular day-trip destination for swimming, fishing, hiking, and biking, and in winter, they have hills for sledding. For golfers, Star is also home to River Birch Golf Course and driving range.
